How To Get The Ex Diris Exotic Grenade Launcher In Destiny 2

Getting the Ex Diris Exotic Grenade Launcher in Destiny 2 can give you an upper hand when facing mobs of opponents, as the weapon’s projectiles have a wide AoE. The firearm was introduced with Season of the Witch (S22), as a part of Year 6 following the Lightfall expansion in 2023. Ex Diris is an Exotic weapon for the Energy Slot, and is aligned with Arc energy. This Grenade Launcher has connections to the Lucent Hive and, with the Corrupted Nucleosynthesis perk, it will become enraged when dealing or taking sustained damage. Being enraged, in turn, increases its rate of fire.

Ex Diris has another exclusive perk called Loyal Moths. This trait will create a Lucent Moth with final blows prompted by the weapon. This Moth will then track a nearby opponent and explode, dealing AoE damage and blinding them. Its natural element alignment along with this perk makes it a good choice for a few Arc builds in Destiny 2, especially those already focused on blinding. Before using it, however, you need to get it.

How To Get Ex Diris In Destiny 2

The Ex Diris is directly related to Season of the Witch’s Season Pass in Destiny 2, meaning it can be obtained from there. If you buy the paid version of the pass and unlock the premium track, this Exotic Grenade Launcher will unlock automatically at rank 1, which means you will not have to do anything else but claim it from the Season Pass’ tab. This is the easiest and most straightforward way of obtaining the desired weapon.

Alternatively, you can also get a free copy of Ex Diris in Destiny 2 by reaching rank 35 on the Season Pass. For players who did not pay to unlock the premium track, this is the only way of getting the Exotic during Season of the Witch. Those who did purchase the Season Pass will get their second copy upon arriving at rank 35, which can then be equipped by a secondary character or set to the Vault.

Once Season of the Witch has been concluded and the respective Season Pass is no longer available, you can still obtain Ex Diris in Destiny 2. The only requirement is that you have purchased the Lightfall expansion for the game. To unlock it, you will need to go to the Monument To Lost Lights in the Tower. For reference, it is located between the Vault’s machines. There, you can access the category Lightfall – Year 6 weapons. You will need to following items to buy Ex Diris:

  • 100,000x Glimmer
  • 200x Legendary Shard
  • 1x Exotic Cipher
  • 1x Ascendant Shard

You can only hold one copy of Exotic Cipher in your inventory at a time. You can obtain these from the Season pass, as well as a quest reward from Xur.

How To Get Ex Diris’ Catalyst In Destiny 2

The Ex Diris featured in its in-game menu page in Destiny 2.

Once you obtain the weapon itself, you can start working your way toward the Ex Diris Catalyst in Destiny 2, which will enhance the weapon’s powers. Essentially, this Catalyst will allow the weapon to become enraged much quicker when the user is amplified by Arc energy. Getting final blows with the weapon will make the user amplified, so it retrofeeds itself on power. To unlock the Catalyst for Ex Diris, you will need to visit the weaponsmith Banshee-44 in the Tower after unlocking the Exotic weapon.

Talking to Banshee-44 will unlock the Grenade Logic quest. Completing this quest will unlock the Ex Diris Catalyst. Grenade Logic has three steps in Destiny 2. Step 1 will have you get 20 multikills and defeat 25 targets without dying. Step 2 will then make you gather 200 calibration data by completing various activities (including Vanguard Ops, Crucible and Gambit matches, and seasonal activities), and defeat 450 opponents. The third and last step is easy: you simply need to visit Banshee-44 in the Tower to complete the quest.

This will unlock the Ex Diris Catalyst in Destiny 2. However, simply unlocking it does not make it viable for use. Once the Catalyst has been obtained by concluding the Grenade Logic quest, you will need to complete one final task to fully unlock its powers and make it equippable. To do this, you will be required to defeat an additional 400 targets with the Ex Diris Exotic Grenade Launcher. After this has been done, the Catalyst will become available to attach onto Ex Diris, thus granting you the amplifying powers of the weapon in Destiny 2.
