GraphicAudio will be releasing three original Hellboy Universe audiobooks written by bestselling author and long-time Hellboy contributor Christopher Golden. With an all-new line-up of stories, the series certainly sounds like one that Hellboy fans won’t want to miss:

Written exclusively for GraphicAudio and produced with a full cast of actors, sound effects, and cinematic music, this audio-first series provides an immersive story set in the Hellboy Universe created by legendary cartoonist Mike Mignola. Each audiobook will be accompanied by cover artwork by Mignola and award-winning colorist Dave Stewart. The first of the audio projects, titled Hellboy: A Plague Of Wasps, continues the story from the fan favorite Hellboy in Love comic books.

The Hellboy Universe Comes To Life In New Audiobook Series

The first release, Hellboy: A Plague of Wasps, sees the return of Hellboy’s girlfriend Anastasia Bransfield. The two paranormal investigators venture into the Brazilian rainforest to prevent the spread of some evil force in this first release, scheduled to be release on July 31. The second audiobook, Lobster Johnson: The Proteus Club, will be released in October. Lobster Johnson is set in 1933, and kicks things off with reporter Cynthia Tynan finding herself drawn into the mystery surrounding the disappearance of several prominent New Yorkers. With the aid of Hellboy’s childhood hero the Lobster, the two confront German spies, religious lunatics, and monstrously transformed people. The third release is Hellboy and the BPRD: The Goddess of Manhattan, and rounds the story out with Hellboy teaming with old friends Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien on a bizarre case linked both to Hellboy’s adventure with Anastasia in Brazil and to Lobster Johnson. Co-authored by Young Hellboy writer Thomas E. Sniegoski, Hellboy and the BPRD: The Goddess of Manhattan will be released in November.

While fans will surely be excited to hear these all-new adventures, the talent responsible for bringing them to life is no less enthusiastic. Author Christopher Golden says, “Having written Hellboy comics and novels and co-written the screenplay for the upcoming Hellboy: The Crooked Man film, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to experiment with original audiobooks.” Golden goes on to elaborate on what fans can expect from the new series, dropping the reveal that the audiobooks will introduce an all-new character to the Hellboy mythos: “The audiobooks form a trilogy that picks up key story threads from the comics that Hellboy fans won’t want to miss, while providing an exciting jumping-on point for casual fans and introducing a brand new character who will eventually appear in the comics.

Golden’s enthusiasm is shared by GraphicAudio’s Creative Director, Scott McCormick, who also has the distinction of playing the role of Big Red. “When I started working at GraphicAudio, I wanted us to get the rights to one property: Hellboy,” McCormick says, “Now, not only do I get to direct a Hellboy adventure, but I also get to direct three all-new, original stories. Bonus: I get to play Hellboy—and not just any Hellboy, but Hellboy in love. Dreams do come true.

As the first audiobooks in the Hellboy Universe, fans won’t want to miss the upcoming audiobooks. The first Hellboy Universe audiobook, Hellboy: A Plague of Wasps, will be released in July from GraphicAudio.
