Good Burger was released all the way back in 1997, but almost three decades later, the cult classic is getting a sequel, and here’s all the recent Good Burger 2 news. The 1997 movie is a spinoff of the popular Nickelodeon show All That, which is ultimately a Saturday Night Live-influenced sketch show for kids. After Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell stole the show, they got their own series, Kenan & Kel, which featured the popular Good Burger sketch. That sketch was turned into a hilarious comedy about Dexter (Thompson) and Ed (Mitchell), two high school students who work at the titular fast-food restaurant.
Following Good Burger, Thompson and Mitchell took separate career paths, as Thompson went on to become a Saturday Night Live regular, and Mitchell had small one-episode roles in a number of TV series until he became a youth pastor in 2019 (via NY Daily News). The two actors briefly reprised their iconic roles for a sketch on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2015, but outside of that, Good Burger was the characters’ last proper appearance — or it will be until the release of Good Burger 2, that is. The sequel is coming out on Paramount+ and here’s all the Good Burger 2 news, including the cast, story, and trailer.
Good Burger 2 Most Recent News
The most recent Good Burger 2 news is the release of the trailer. While the Good Burger 2 trailer is incredibly brief at only 35 seconds long, it sees the two characters bickering like they never left the small screen — a welcome return, and one that shows Thompson and Mitchell haven’t lost their touch. The first 30 seconds of the Good Burger 2 first look is stuffed with callbacks to classic Good Burger moments, such as Ed and Dexter riding in the Burgermobile, Ed still being an unpredictable driver, and a twist on the original Good Burger greeting: “Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, can we take your order?” The trailer also sees a new group of Good Burger employees and reveals that Ed now owns the restaurant.
Good Burger 2 Is Confirmed
Good Burger 2 is confirmed, as it was officially announced by Thompson and Mitchell during a 2023 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Following up with a statement (via Collider), Thompson explained, “Love performing with my brother Kel and can’t wait to show the fans what these characters have been up to since we last saw them.” The movie won’t get a theatrical release and will be available to stream on Paramount+, which is also the home of the original movie. While there isn’t currently a Good Burger 2 release date, the release window is Fall 2023, with a reported November 2023 slot in mind.
Good Burger 2 Cast
Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchel are reprising their roles as Dexter and Ed, respectively, but they’ll be joined by some other familiar faces in the Good Burger 2 cast. A number of the original Good Burger cast will return for the legacy sequel, as the Paramount+ movie will feature Josh Server’s Fizz, Lori Beth Denberg’s Connie Muldoon, and Carmen Electra’s Roxanne. The Good Burger 2 cast will also introduce some new actors, including Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street), Anabel Graetz (Free Guy), Kamaia Fairburn (Blockbuster), and Alex R. Hibbert (Moonlight), and there could be some Good Burger 2 cameos.
Good Burger 2 Story
Outside of their regular hijinks, the Good Burger 2 story will see Ed now running the Good Burger restaurant. Dexter needs a job after the failure of one of his inventions, and Ed happily rehires him at the fast food place. However, while exact details are vague, according to the plot synopsis, Dexter puts the restaurant in jeopardy when he tries to get back on his feet. The Good Burger 2 story will probably see Dex and Ed locking horns too, as Dexter likely won’t take kindly to being told what to do by his new boss.
Good Burger Trailer
The Good Burger 2 trailer might only be 35 seconds long, but that is enough time to show fans that the characters haven’t changed and that they’re just as wacky as they used to be. Along with haphazardly coasting around in the Burgermobile, when a waiter asks “water?” the trailer sees Ed guzzle almost an entire pitcher of water and confirm, “Oh yeah, that’s water!” The teaser also features the classic theme song, “We’re All Dudes,” by Mitchell and Less Than Jake.
