Should Gary King Be Fired From Below Deck Sailing Yacht? (He Was Accused Of Sexual Misconduct)

Summary

  • Gary from Below Deck Sailing Yacht has a questionable history of sleeping with multiple women every season, often without treating them with respect.
  • A makeup assistant, Samantha Suarez, accused Gary of sexual misconduct during filming, but Bravo claims they took action at the time of the incident.
  • Samantha has faced consequences for speaking out, while Gary continues to benefit from his fame on the show. Bravo needs to reevaluate their casting choices.

Gary King from Below Deck Sailing Yacht should finally be fired from the show now that he’s been accused of alleged sexual misconduct. Since season 2 of the Bravo series, Gary has been a central character on the show as the first officer. Along with Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher, Chief Engineer Colin Macrae, and Captain Glenn Shepherd, the four of them have been important to the success of the reality show.

The new alleged revelation about Gary came weeks after Luke Jones was fired from Below Deck Down Under season 2 after a sexual harassment incident with Luke and Third Stew Margot Sisson. Luke climbed into Margot’s bunk naked while she was drunk and unconscious. While producers intervened before anything could happen, it was terrifying to witness.

Gary Sleeps With A New Girl Every Season

Alli Dore, Gary King, and Sydney Zaruba from Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2.

While it’s completely fine for two consenting adults to engage in intimate activities, Gary has taken it too far on every season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht. During season 2, Gary hooked up with his deckhand Sydney Zaruba and later stew Ali Dore. In season 3, he had an on-off relationship with Ashley Marti, kissed Daisy, hooked up with Gabriella Barragan, and then tried to woo Scarlett Bentley.

Most recently, in season 4, Gary was in a boatmance with Mads Herrera. women seem to be drawn to Gary, but he has never seemed to treat them with real respect. Who could forget Gary accusing Mads of being on her period while they were together on camera? He was inappropriate and out of line for this outburst.

Gary Was Accused Of Sexual Misconduct By A Producer

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Samantha Suarez, who was assisting on Below Deck Sailing Yacht in the makeup department, accused Gary of an inappropriate encounter. She claimed it took place during one of their “dark days” of filming in the summer of 2022. Samantha alleged when she took Gary to his hotel room after filming a confessional interview for the show, he was drunk and erratic.

She didn’t want home to leave his room, so she decided to stay. As she was about the leave, Gary tried to stop her by allegedly pushing himself against her. Samantha started to fight back, but then she received a phone call from the talent manager. “I’m freaking out, and [the talent manager] goes, ‘What’s wrong? What’s going on?’ And I’m like, ‘Just leave me alone.’ He tried to come up behind me and put his arm around me,” Samantha claimed. “He’s in the hallway in his underwear and it’s all weird and f—ked up, and so I’m just like, ‘Just go back in your room and don’t come out.’”

Samantha had worked on previous seasons of the franchise, including Below Deck season 10. She alleged that bosun Ross McHarg had made a few “weird, lewd, sexual, gross comments” towards her that made her feel uncomfortable. She alleged that the comments were so inappropriate a few of the men in the car had to yell at Ross to be quiet.

What Did Bravo Do About Gary’s Alleged Sexual Misconduct?

Gary King Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Bravo commented on the Rolling Stones piece, claiming they are “committed to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for cast and crew.” According to the network, Samantha’s accusations were dealt with last summer when she brought them to their attention, and were “investigated at that time and action was taken based on the findings.” However, it seems it wasn’t enough for Samantha as she took a break from work shortly after for her mental health. When she was ready to return, she claimed the network didn’t ask her to come back. Samantha did what she thought was right and was essentially punished for it.

Instead of the alleged sexual misconduct incident being addressed properly, Gary gets to feed off the fame of Below Deck Sailing Yacht while Samantha is left to look for another job. Now, with the Luke incident and this alleged one with Gary, Bravo needs to go back to the drawing board when it comes to casting. Hopefully, next season will not include Gary.
