“They Never Gave Me Any Details”

Barbie stunt double Emma Eastwood revealed the upcoming movie had high security when it came to the movie’s plot. The Barbie movie stars Margot Robbie as the titular character who goes into the real world on a journey of self-discovery alongside her boyfriend Ken, played by Ryan Gosling. The comedic film is set to be released in theaters in July 2023, though some elements of its plot remain under wraps.

Speaking with The New York Times, Eastwood shared how secretive the Barbie story was despite her filming many scenes in the movie. She reveals no one told her the movie’s plot even though she was Robbie’s stunt double, highlighting just how under wraps the production was. Check out what Eastwood had to say below:

They did a very good job of keeping the plot hidden. They didn’t give me any details of what we would be doing. There were a couple times they said the whole cast would be there and it would be an important day, but they never actually gave me any details of what we would be doing until I was on set.

What To Expect From The Barbie Movie

Eastwood detailed a few Barbie scenes she had to be Robbie’s stunt double for, such as walking up the stairs as if her feet hurt and laying facedown for an hour. None of these scenes reveal much about Barbie‘s overall plot, but this shows how the story was a secret even for people working on the film. It’s clear the intention was to make sure very few people knew the full plot before it releases in theaters.

The trailer for the Barbie movie, however, shows it will focus on Barbie and Ken’s arrival in the real world after leaving Barbieland. This results in the Mattel CEO, played by Will Ferrell, trying to get Barbie out of the real world. It seems Barbie dolls will exist in the world of Barbie, setting up an action-packed, comedic chase as Ferrell tries to keep Barbie from exploring the real world and exposing some unknown reality about them.

There are still many unknowns about the storyline, such as how Barbie and Ken get to the real world and what comedic situations they’ll find themselves in. Barbie looks like it will be both a love letter to the famed Mattel toy and a self-aware parody of the Barbie doll concept. With Barbie projected to be a major summer release, it seems the film is still saving some surprises for the big screen.
